Out of the Darkness

Winter Lantern Procession

On the evening of February 18, Enderby Riverwalk was lit up with a procession of lanterns created for “Out of the Darkness” Lantern Procession and show. It was a welcome sight to look forward to in these dark days. There were many surprises along the way.

There were plenty of (free) opportunities to make a lantern:

In Enderby, Saturdays January 27th, February 10 and 17 from 1 to 4pm, at 514B Cliff Avenue (entrance just to the right of Enderby Library);

In Armstrong, Saturday February 3 and Sunday February 11 from noon to 3pm, at PV Blvd Coffee, 2510 Pleasant Valley Blvd;

In Salmon Arm, Sunday January 28th and February 4th from 1 to 4pm, at Salmon Arm Arts Centre (lower level entrance), 70 Hudson Ave. NE.

Lanterns were made by students at Shihaya, Grindrod, MV Beattie, AL Fortune and Heartwood Schools, at Splatsin Tsm7aksaltn Teaching Centre, and at Enderby Towers.

This year our celebration focused on Home. Folks made lanterns of their own homes, of their ideal homes, of a home designed for others, of a place that felt like at home. Large collaborations happened to make some local buildings in our community.

The event on February 18 started at 7 PM. We met near the Harvest Hut at the Maud Street Parking Lot, behind the Red Apple store.
