ABOUT US • HISTORY

Runaway Moon Theatre was formed in March 2000 in Enderby, a small town of about 5000 people in the interior of B.C. Founding Artistic Director Cathy Stubington has pursued the development of a distinctive multi-layered style of theatre with a variety of associate artists. Twenty years of production and exploration in puppetry through Picardi Marionette Theatre in Montreal, a series of productions at the Caravan Farm Theatre in nearby Armstrong, BC, and several other collaborative projects in the province were all important in its development.

Two large-scale community projects inspired the creation of Runaway Moon Theatre. ‘The Enderby and District Community Play’ (1998) was a groundbreaking project that created a new interest in local cultural activity and an understanding of its value in building and sustaining community. It was quickly followed by ‘Out of the Ordinary’, a large-scale theatrical event with over two hundred local residents.

Since 2000, Runaway Moon Theatre has actively pursued both parts of its mandate, and is one of the few theatre organizations to create and present both professional puppet theatre and community-based arts events. The company has created an impressive number of productions and events mostly in and around the community of Enderby, and draws on audiences from Kamloops, Kelowna, Vernon, Salmon Arm, Sorrento and the local area.
